Biography:

Paul graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 1975 with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics.  He next earned a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1977, focusing his studies on land and real estate, a specialization that later became the Land Economics and Real Estate (LERE) Program.  Paul’s Texas A&M experiences included research on the rural land market of Texas at the Texas Real Estate Research Center, under the tutelage of Dr. Ivan Schmedemann. 

Following graduation, Paul worked for James K. Norwood, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, from January 1977 through December 1981.  In 1982, Paul decided to return to his hometown of Junction, Texas to open Bierschwale Appraisals.  He owned and operated Bierschwale Appraisals from January 1982 until January 2010, when Bierschwale Land Company, LLC was established, with his sons Aaron and Justin joining him as partners.  From September 1980 through March 1997, he also served as Chief Appraiser of the Kimble County Appraisal District, where he oversaw all valuations for ad valorem taxation in the district.  He was appointed to the Texas Real Estate Appraiser Certification Committee in 1989 and worked with the board to set up the original State Certification criteria for real estate appraisers in Texas. 

Paul is currently a part owner, Real Estate Appraiser, and Real Estate Broker of Bierschwale Land Company, LLC in Junction.  Bierschwale Land Company is a full service appraisal, brokerage, and consulting firm.  Through the years, the company has provided valuations, consulting, and litigation support in conjunction with private purchases, loans, estates, conservation easements, partitions, lake acquisitions, right-of-way acquisitions.  The company also is involved in financial planning, fee simple, easement, and partial interest situations and a myriad of other potential questions relating to real property.  Paul is qualified in Federal and Texas State courts as an expert on Real Estate values. 

Paul has spent his career actively involved with professional organizations in the appraisal industry.  Paul was elected national President of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) in 2005 and served in that capacity until February of 2007.  Paul holds an Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation with ASFMRA.  In 2011, Paul received the Appraisal Professional of the Year Award and in 2012, he was awarded the H.E. “Buck” Stalcup Excellence in Education for Appraisers award. 

In 2008, Paul was appointed to the Board of Trustees (BOT) of The Appraisal Foundation.  He served through July of 2013.  He served as Chairman of the Board in 2012, one of the highest positions of trust one can attain in the appraisal industry.  With his resignation from the BOT in July of 2013, Paul was elected to the Board of Regents of the Alliance for Valuation Education (AVE) and then elected as that entity’s first Chairman.  Paul has also been an active member with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Americas division.

Paul is an active member of his local community.  He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Junction where he is a Ruling Elder, having served as an Elder on the Session.  He is also a past board member of the Junction ISD School Board, a past President of the Junction Rotary Club, a past President and Coach of the Junction Little League, and a past board member of the Hill Country Fair Association, among other local organizations.  

Paul and his wife, Debbie, live in Junction, TX and have two sons.  Aaron ’99 and his wife, Tiffany, have two children, Bode and Taya.  Justin ’02 and his wife, Carmen ’02, have three children, Jade, Brock and Koda.  Both sons and daughter-in-law, Carmen, work with their Dad at Bierschwale Land Company.
