Biography:

Stoney M. Stubbs, Jr. has been the Chairman, President, and CEO of Frozen Food Express Industries (FFE), the largest publicly held refrigerated trucking company in North America, since 1980.  Its services extend from Canada, throughout the 48 contiguous United States, and into Mexico. He is a graduate of the Department of Agricultural Economics in 1958 at Texas A&M; and after two years service in the U.S. Army, he started with FFE as a management trainee.

Mr. Stubbs worked his way up through operations management and sales in the company and was named to his current position in 1980. When he took over as President, FFE had 300 trucks and generated $68 million in annual revenue.  He grew the company swiftly in the ‘80s and ‘90s; and in the fiscal year ending 2008, FFE had 2,100 trucks and reported revenues of $459 million. He currently leads a company of 2,700 employees that helps support the food chain logistics of the United States. FFE has won numerous safety records and was named one of the Forbes best companies to work for in 1994. The company has assisted in several relief efforts, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005-06, and has transported medical supplies, food, ice and water for victims in many locations.

Staying afloat in a business as tough as trucking is more than a full-time challenge for any fleet executive, but Mr. Stubbs is one of many who also give significant time and talent to industry organizations. He has served on the board of the Texas Transportation Institute, the Texas Motor Transportation Assn., the Western Highway Institute, and the Interstate Truckload Carriers Conference (now the Truckload Carriers Assn.) He has chaired various TCA committees and is active in many local, regional and national transportation and business associations.

Texas A&M has been the beneficiary of the Stubbs’ volunteerism and generosity.  Mr. Stubbs has been involved in and has supported the Texas A&M Foundation, the TAMU Agricultural Development Council, and the TAMU Corps of Cadets for numerous years.  Julie and Stoney Stubbs are listed on The Eppright Distinguished Donors List through the 12th Man Foundation.

Stoney Stubbs is married to Julie, and they have three children, all Texas A&M graduates:  Russell Stubbs, Class of ’85; Jill Stubbs Howard, Class of ’88; and Tim Stubbs, Class of ‘91.  Two grandchildren have also graduated from the University:  Kelsi Howard Banahan, Class of ‘07 and Corby Stubbs, Class of ‘09.  Stoney and Julie Stubbs live in Southlake, Texas.
