Biography:

Ben R. Novosad is recognized as a statewide leader in agricultural finance and an enthusiastic contributor to student enrichment programs.  He received his B.S. degree in agricultural economics from Texas A&M in 1975. As many students do, he held down several jobs to finance his education and family needs.

Following graduation, Mr. Novosad went to work as a loan officer for the Federal Land Bank Association in Bryan.  He enjoyed working with farmers and ranchers in the area and was good at his job.  Because of his ranching background at Caldwell, he could relate to his customers' needs, and understand their businesses.  He enjoyed working on his family's ranch and knew he wanted one of his own some day to share with his children. After seven years, he was promoted to Regional Vice-President with the Federal Land Bank’s main office in Austin, and this job included supervising a seven-association region.

Mr. Novosad came back to Bryan in 1985 to become Vice-President of the Federal Land Bank Association where he first began his agri-finance career in 1976.  He became President in 1986 and over a time period of 15 years, he worked through several mergers and joint ventures and eventually was promoted to president and CEO of Capital Farm Credit, headquartered in Bryan.  Capital Farm Credit is one of the largest lenders in the Farm Credit system, with more than $5.4 billion in loans to 17,500 members, with 75 branch locations, and with more than 300 employees.

On the ranching side, Mr. Novosad, his wife, Sharon, and his two sons, Brad and Cody, manage a cattle herd now numbering over 400 head, and their family thoroughly enjoys the time they spend together on this venture.  Finding a way to divide his time between work, his ranch, his family, and his community is a challenge that Mr. Novosad has made work.  His family and the Lord always come first; he loves what he does, leads by example, and enjoys giving back.  He is respected by his co-workers, community, and family.

Ben Novosad has had a meritorious record of agricultural finance accomplishments and a dedicated commitment to excellence in all aspects of life that bring significant recognition to both the Agricultural Economics Department and its students.  He and Capital Farm Credit are steadfast in their support of the Department, annually contributing several scholarships and sponsoring various student activities, including the Fall Kickoff Event, SKYP Lunches, and the Spring Undergraduate Banquet.
